Siemens S5 PLC service, support and upgrade

siemens-s5 ag    Siemens has produced the S5 range of automation products since the early 1980’s. These products have come to the end of their life and are no longer supported by Siemens.

How does this affect your plant?

• Cost of spares are becoming more expensive, availability is decreasing and lead time to receive spares is increasing

• Specific Product knowledge of S5 PLC products and specialist knowledge is not readily available

S5 Service & Support

• Evaluation of S5 spares held on site and advise on critical spares
• S5 program backup verifications
• Support and upgrade proposals

S5 upgrades

Upgrades can take any number of pathways and include:

• Full upgrades: The S5 CPU and I/O is replaced in its entirety with state of the art S7 gear

• Partial upgrades:
o Upgrade the S5 CPU to S7, but maintain the existing S5 I/O’s
o Upgrade the S5 I/O’s to S7, but maintain the existing S5 CPU

Each Strategy offers distinct advantages, let us advise you on which one suits you best.

S5 change outs need not result in plant downtime. I S Systems recently completed an upgrade of an S5 system with 8 networked PLC’s and a total of 3500 I/O points during a normal 72 hour planned plant maintenance shut. This project won the national PACE Zenith awards 2007.
